Your Questions About Expedia Hotel

Steven asks…

Are there any hotels in LA or Miami that allow an 18year old to book a hotel room?

when im 18 me and my friend would love a trip to miami or la but ive been doing ‘research’ and from what i see on sites like expedia you cant book a room if your 18. is that just expedia or just a general hotel rule?……btw can no one question my finances or reasons for our choice of destination lol i ve had enough of being asked questions in what are supposed to be answers lol……….o yer we’re british citizens just to add

Ready2Retire answers:

In my experience, when I’ve book a hotel room direct, I’ve never been asked my age. All they want is a valid credit card. As for Expedia, I’m over 18 so I’ve never really noticed… Can’t your “parents” book it for you :) I doubt Expedia is going to research your true age… It’s just so that they aren’t held liable because of your age. (I mean, seriously, teens go on holiday all of the time. I travelled Europe when I was 17!)

Just make sure to have your hotel booking, return flight, and proof of financial ability to support yourself ready for Immigration once you hit the Florida Airport. Once you’re past them; ENJOY!

Susan asks…

I need a cheap hotel/cabin in the Tennessee/Kentucky area for my honeymoon.?

Does anyone know how to begin the search for one, other than using expedia.com, hotels.com, priceline, etc? All these places want me to pay beforehand, with no guarantee of reimbursement if something were to come up. But I need them really cheap or with a good deal! Anybody got suggestions? Or even better, a coupon or discount I could use?! haha.

Ready2Retire answers:

Best value is going to be with Priceline or Yahoo travel and yes you will pay up front – that’s why it’s a good deal.

If you have an area that you are interested in – I would offer this suggestion – look for the hotels near business centers – you can sometimes get a really good discount rate on your own based on most business travelers check out Thursday night.

Donald asks…

Whats better to use, Expedia.com or hotels.com?

Ok, so basically i wanted to reserve a hotel in philladelphia, but the hotel said its booked through the days i want to go there. But both hotels.com and expedia.com are offering me a room for nearly the same price and the same dates. Is there a catch? Is it guaranteed i would get a room at my hotel? i have never used either of these sites so please help!

Ready2Retire answers:

No catch: To quote from the Telegraph Newspaper “hotels sell blocks of rooms to wholesalers, who sell them on to retailers, such as Expedia and Booking.com, who sell them to customers.” see also http://www.quora.com/How-does-hotels-com-make-money

However, don’t limit yourself to just Expedia & hotels.com try
http://hotels.via.us.com it searches and compares prices from 33 major operators and hotel chains including Expedia, hotels.com and Booking.com. There are no add-ons to the operators rates – you click through and book on the operator’s (eg Expedia’s) own website.

Donna asks…

Your Questions About Small Business

Richard asks…

How can I accept credit cards for my small business?

I own a small home theater business basically out of my house. I buy products from authorized wholesalers, and then sell them retail. I’ve mainly been running on a cash/check basis. I have a business checking account. But I now have a big customer who wants to pay with a credit card.

Are there any good credit card services available that have low fees?

Ready2Retire answers:

You can also try www.Propay.com You pay an annual fee (amount depends on package you choose) and a small percentage of each purchase.

Laura asks…

How can a fourteen year old boy make a small business in cooking?

Hi,
I’m fourteen year old boy and I’m really passionate about business and making money. People say you should go into business in a market you know and seeing as I’m good at and enjoy cooking, I thought I’d try a small food – related business. I’ve saved up around £1000 to put into it, so no crazy ideas such as opening a bakery, ETC. Please no-one putting up links to other websites.

Ready2Retire answers:

Start a meal replacement service.

This is a subscription service where you come in, give the client menu choices with dietary information for usually 20 meals a month. You partner with a tupperware representative and have the customer buy a set of tupperware to freeze the dinners in and you come to their house once a month to cook up the dinners and freeze them. You label the dinners with reheating instructions and nutritional information and with serveral clients you can enjoy economies of scale by purchasing he groceries in bulk.

Eventually you partner with people who provide housecleaning and lawn services and offer a package deal.

Daniel asks…

How does a small business employer withhold FICA for employees?

I know the employer has to withhold FICA tax for employees. If there are only two employees, and the employer wants to do the payroll by himself, does he just calculates and deducts FICA tax from employee’s paychecks? Is there any kind of software we can use for small business?

Ready2Retire answers:

Doing payroll manually can be a pain. You can get Quickbooks Pro for your small business accounting which has a payroll portion to the program.
As an employer you are required to withhold federal and state income tax as well as fica and Medicare tax from your employees. Circular E, which you can get from the IRS at irs.gov explains the payroll withholding process. There are income tax withholding tables for the various elections that an employee make on the W-4 form they give you.
This said I think you would be better off hiring a payroll service. Payroll is complicated and many small business owners don’t know the rules and fall into problems that result in penalty assessments. The cost of a service is not that great and they guarantee that you won’t get notices from the IRS.

Your Questions About Getaway Vacations

David asks…

What do you think of this book idea?

Hi, I am going to write a book and the I will put the introduction below:

A fabulous dream vacation to the Bahamas had Stella Roden absolutely flabbergasted. The sun, the breeze and the beautiful beach made Stella cringe with excitement. Plus the fact that she could get a break from her busy, Manhattan lifestyle. Plus she could get a nice Caribbean tan. Would a crime scene maybe stop her from having her fun, getaway vacation? Would a serial killer on the loose ruin the perfect summer vacation? Will it kill her new summer romance?

Ready2Retire answers:

I think it could work, just make sure the crime is very out of the box so that you don’t face the issue of remaking an old story (such as a weird killer signature or something oddly in common about the people he or she kills)

I need a few days getaway in Western NY?

I’m desperate for a few days vacation soon, i’m looking for something fun to do, maybe like a bed and breakfast but with stuff to do within a few miles drive so we aren’t bored. A new years bash would be awesome, but it would need to be 18+. I’ve looked everywhere and i’d really appreciate help! thanks!

Ready2Retire answers:

Buffalo, New York; on New years is always so much fun. One recommended spot is really anywhere downtown but mainly Chippewa St. It has many different clubs and hangout spots for ages 18+. Hope I helped alittle. Have fun hun <3

Joseph asks…

whats the best vacation spot for ladies only getaway?

Ready2Retire answers:

Hola. Cabo is a great place to plan a girls only getaway. First off, most of the resorts here are at least 5 star. I would assume you would prefer a nicer place, preferable without kids, that offers spa treatments and perhaps nightlife? I would ask you to check out the Marquis or Dreams. Fancy yet, would be the ME Melia, or Esperanza. Lower cost places would be Riu Sante Fe, the Villa de Sunset or Villa de arco, or if you would prefer a more quaint town experience with art galleries, beautiful restaurants, and lovely shopping, then you may want to stay in San Jose del Cabo, which is 20 minutes from Cabo, but closer to the airport. There, the resort I would recommend is called Grand Mayan. Barcelo would be the cheaper option in SJD.

Helen asks…

Horseback riding vacations?

Does anyone know of any good equestrian vacations within 6 hours (driving) of New Jersey? I am looking to go on a nice weekend getaway, preferably with english riding. I would especially like somewhere with quality training geared for more advanced riders as well. Any suggestions are appreciated :)
Thanks!

Ready2Retire answers:

I have been wanting to do the same thing! These websites have many horseback riding vacations and trips on them. Unfortunately, many of them are international or in the western United States.

There are a few in Massachusetts, Virginia, and Vermont. Canada also has several, if that is an option.

Your Questions About Travelocity Hotel

Mandy asks…

travelocity supershuttle?

I just booked a trip, and i also got the supershuttle package. When do they pick you up from the hotel for the return trip? I did not say when the pick up would be, i just got a voucher. To anyone who used travelocity and supershuttle, how did they pick you up from the hotel to the airport on the way home? Did they phone you? You contacted them?

Ready2Retire answers:

I think you are supposed to contact them. You could always ask at the help desk in the airport when you arrive about how that works.

Carol asks…

Where is the best place to book a vacation through?

I am planiing a vacation for our family from AZ to IL in September. Where is the best place to book the vacation? We’ll need round trip flights and a hotel for the trip, I’m just looking for the best deal.

Any places to avoid dealing with? (i.e. Expedia, travelocity, etc?)

Any hotels (in Chicago) or airlines to steer clear of? Any recommendations? Why?

Thanks in advance! =)

Ready2Retire answers:

travelocity is fine, disregard what the other guy said. Expedia, travelocity and Orbitz are the big 3 and have an established internet presence for a reason: they sell the most tickets online. You may get a bad experience once in a while but I bet you you will get a lot more satisfied customers. I recommend you go through kayak.com to search for lowest prices. If you do plan on going through through the big 3, make sure you search for a coupon code first such as in http://www.webcouponcodes.com/retailer/travelocity.aspx

Helen asks…

What software can I use to run a very small travel agency?

I like to sell air tickets and hotel reservations. I use online services like travelocity, airlines webpages and call centers. This tools dont offer me the flexibility to perform changes to reservations or extend the due date of the reservation. So i need an online software that gives me the flexibility to manage this reservations. I have heard of Sabre and Amadeus, but i think they are too expensive for me right now. Any advice?

Ready2Retire answers:

Go to microsoft.com and review their small business software. It is directly compatible with MSoffice, and has a trial version for download.

Donald asks…

travelocity or Expedia? Safe and reliable?

I’m from Japan and studying in Oregon now.
I’m now planning to take a trip to Los Angeles (at first I was thinking about SF, but I’ve changed my mind.) from Nov. 22 to 25.
And I’ve heard there are websites where I can make reservations of flight and a hotel. And these are “travelocity.com” and “Expedia.com.”
Are these websites safe and reliable? Becuase I’ve never used these sites, I have feelings of resistace toward using my credit card on these sites.
But I don’t want to spend most of time on my study and want to have time to relax.
Which website do you often use and recommend? Are these really safe?
Should I make reservations of my flight and a hotel right now so that they won’t be fully booked since the time when I make a trip is Thanksgiving?
Thank you for your help!

Ready2Retire answers:

Hi there,

I’m an editor with travelocity and I can tell you that yes, it’s ABSOLUTELY safe and secure to book your flight (or hotel or car or vacation package) on travelocity. All personal information you provide to travelocity is transmitted using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption. SSL is a proven coding system that lets your browser automatically encrypt, or scramble, data before you send it to us. In addition, when you make travel purchases on travelocity, you are protected by travelocity’s Shop Safe Guarantee. So you’re fine. If you have other questions regarding flight changes and so on, here’s a link to our top air travel FAQs: http://travelocity.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/…
Also, if you click on “privacy policy” right at the bottom of that llink, you can read a little more about how your information is private and protected.

To answer the second part of your question about whether you should book your Thanksgiving flight and hotel now, I’d say yes — we’re only about a month away from Thanksgiving now and it’s very unlikely that rates are going to fall. If you see a price that works for you (wherever you’re looking), go ahead and book it, rather than trying to hold out to see if it drops any further. If you were talking about travel a little further in advance, I might not give you the same advice, but for something coming up so soon, I wouldn’t wait too much longer.

The exception, of course, is if you were looking at a last minute deal — I’m not sure about Expedia or other travel sites, but travelocity has a special Last Minute Deal section where you can get a hotel + flight package for substantial savings when you book anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 hours in advance. For instance, I’m going to Vancouver next weekend from San Francisco (booked today) for $292 per person, including flight and two nights hotel. I priced just the flight separately and it was about $450. However, taking a last minute trip IS a little bit of a risk in that you don’t know if the flight times and so on that you want will be available when it comes time to book them — and as you said, you don’t want to be thinking about this while you’re studying, so it’s really up to you.

Bottom line: inputting your credit card details into travelocity.com is totally safe, and I’d go with booking your Thanksgiving travel now if you can find a price that works.

Hope this helps you out a little — please feel free to contact me if you have more questions or to stop back here and ask them (I’ll do my best to reply!)

Have a safe flight and a great trip — whoever you end up booking with.
–Holly

Mary asks…

Who can tell me about travelocity, Expedia..etc?

So I posted a question yesterday about why is it much cheaper to purchase your hotel from websites such as travelocity, and expedia rather than purchasing them from the actual hotel? I don’t really understand how they do that…so my question is if I were to purchase my hotel online through one of these websites is it safe and is that really the price it’s going to be? When I get to the hotel they aren’t going to charge me more money since I purchased it through one of these sites are they? Someone please explain & I know you probably think I’m an idiot. but thanks for the help :)

Ready2Retire answers:

They don’t charge extra unless specified and also sometimes the prices get lower by using coupons and the prices are lower on these sites because the get a rack or bulk rate.

What are the legal complications of starting a small business while under 18?

I’m looking for links to articles about the legal complications of starting and running a small business at age 17. And I’m not talking about mowing lawns or walking dogs or babysitting, I’m talking about an all out real business, with like a name and contracts and licenses and insurance and all that good stuff.

Ready2Retire answers:

Under 18 you cannot legally sign a contract of any type.

Laura asks…

Why is it important to have experience in operating a small business?

Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone can give me a little bit of information on why it is important to have experience when starting up a small business. For example, if someone who has no experience in operating a small business, did not study any business subjects at school and has not attended any educational institution since leaving school, wanted to start up a small business, why would it be important that he had experience before commencing? Maybe you could include some examples of why his business would possibly fail if he didn’t have any experience?

Much appreciated are the answers.

Ready2Retire answers:

Difficult question to answer, but anything you do in life will be done better, safer etc. With the benefit of experience. You pass your driving test so you can drive. But you are not completely safe until you have gained experience of the unexpected things that can happen.

John asks…

How to get a government grant for my small business?

My husband has a small business and I’ve been hearing alot about government grants to help us with his business. Does anyone know how to go about applying for one and what the requirements are and any other advice? Thank you.

Ready2Retire answers:

I need loan too

Steven asks…

I run a small business, can I deduct the cost of a recently purchased house on my taxes?

Last semester I took a real estate class at the local college and the teacher discussed some people buying real estate as an investment and for a tax deduction. I run a small business unrelated to real estate but recently purchased a $40K home as a project/fixer-upper. I am unsure whether I will live in it after it is done or sell it. I currently live with my parents. Both the home and I are in Illinois and I paid cash for the house.

Ready2Retire answers:

There are a ton of deductions you can use from an investment property. All of the improvements and closing costs for example. There are also many more deductions available to the small business owner. See a reputable tax preparer and they will be well worth the expense.

Your Questions About Romantic Vacation Getaway

Sandra asks…

My husband and I are going away for our anniversary w/o the kids. I was so excited, but now i feel guilty.?

We booked a week vacation to Punta Cana-a second honeymoon. However, now I don’t have a job, and I don’t think we can take a family vacation this year. We couldn’t afford one last year either. The kids are mad that we’re not taking them, and I feel bad, but we skrimped and saved to go on a romantic getaway to Punta Cana! We’ve been under so much stress and need a break, but now I feel like a bad mom!
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Ready2Retire answers:

My husband and I are going to Punta Cana to celebrate our 20th Anniversary-WITHOUT the kids! This we be our first trip back to the Caribbean since our Honeymoon! I’m really looking forward to it, but when we went fot the passports my oldest complained that he wasn’t going. If we took the kids, we honestly couldn’t afford to go either! Plus it’s meant to be a ROMANTIC ESCAPE! I’m going to start saving for a FUN FAMILY VACATION for next summer!

I’m probably going to take the kids away for a couple of days w/o my hubby.(It would be hard for him to get more time off) Plus we’ll take them on some day trips.

I know how you feel. Sometimes I feel those pangs of mothery gulit too, but after 20 years of marriage we deserve a ROMANTIC ESCAPE TO THE CARIBBEAN!!! AND SO DO YOU!

I also agree with the other person, who said the kids would dump you on Grandma, and go away if they had a chance! LOL!

PS It’s also healthy for the kids to see you making YOUR marriage a priority! HAVE FUN!!!

Mark asks…

WHAT is wrong with me?! Can’t seem to move on…?

I found out about a month ago that my ex, whom I thought I would marry, has been sleeping with my supposed best friend. My ex and I are both 25, and she’s 28. He broke up with me on my birthday and the same weekend as my graduation from law school (in May). My supposed best friend was there for me, telling me the usual “you deserve so much better,” “he’s not worth your time,” “what a jerk,” etc. that any good girlfriend would say. Well, fast-forward three months, and now she’s got her claws in him. I’m shocked, appalled, and disgusted.

To move beyond this, my family decided to go on vacation. So, here I am, in the French Riviera, with my family, and all I think about is how much it sucks that I don’t have someone special to have a romantic getaway with here. In fact, recently, all I can think about is the two of them together. I wake up in the morning thinking it’s all just a terrible dream, and then, reality sets in. HOW CAN I GET OUT OF THIS FUNK?!?!

Thanks so much, in advance!

Ready2Retire answers:

I hear you. I was in the same boat like you (graduated from law school last year) fell in love with one of my classmates (we were study partners) he dumped me for his ex (who btw cheated on him, has a child with another man and lives in another state). I was so in love with him and was the best gf I could possibly be. Well, I got screwed at the end.

I got over this jerk by working a lot and focusing on building my career as a lawyer in a firm. I started working out more, treating myself to nice dinners, spas, shopping and trips. You do deserve better. Your best friend was a total bitch and all what I can say honey – Good riddance for you.

This is a time to reflect and work on what is important to you in this life. You have accomplished so much and do not let any unthankful, backstabbing jerk take it away from you. Men come and go, believe me. The one you supposed to be with will find you. Take it from a fellow attorney.

GO TO CHURCH

Sandy asks…

Do you and your bf/gf fight over stupid stuff?

i know we do :-(

we’re mad at eachother right now because he wants to quit his job this week, and I am telling him to first get a job, THEN quit. He says “I’ll do it on my own terms”

His birthday is coming up, and I am planning a romantic getaway in Malibu, not to mention our anniversary is the day before so, he’s going to pitch in on a few things (financially).

Ok, so…if he wants to quit his job…FINE BY ME! it’s a company with a terrible reputation anyway….BUT, start looking for a job FIRST I tell him!

While I am over here panicing, because I am thinking our vacation is going to be cancelled, he’s over there thinking I am mad at him because of the way I talked to him earlier over the pricing on a hotel. (he wants something cheap)

Can you believe we’re mad at eachother, not talking to eachother over this? What should I do?
I need to Vent with someone

Ready2Retire answers:

Lol, vent away honey, vent away! It happens! Guys just don’t see the same thing that we do? It’s like their minds are set on Beer and wings? And we are set on financial stability and responsibilities =D

…but oh we love them boys! Look, just talk to him, yes, you will have to be the one to make the first call, cuz if your bf is anything like mine he will wait till 3 am on a drunk long nite to call.

Remind him that fights like this aren’t important. And you know, get the cheaper priced hotel? Why not? Maybe not cheap but inbetween?

Also keep in mind that maybe he is getting the vibe he’s gonna get fired at work or something? Guys don’t tell us everything because they don’t want to “hear it” from us.

Come on’ call him up and get those plans finished and ready to go =D

In fact, recently, all I can think about is the two of them together. I wake up in the morning thinking it’s all just a terrible dream, and then, reality sets in. HOW CAN I GET OUT OF THIS FUNK?!?!

Thanks so much, in advance!

I was in the same puddle as you are in now! You arent alone in this matter atleast. My ex broke up with me for another guy who was married…it killed me instantly (emotionally ) i was in chronic depression. Finally one day i woke up saying enough is enough time to get back up to pull myself together..

Its been 2 yrs now…i still miss my ex every now and then…and by gods grace i have someone new in my life and i m engaged to her :)

you will find inner peace soon. The only way out is to go through it . Cry your heart out or talk it out to your friends everytime. You will forgive and forget once you find someone new in your life. Dont take life too seriously, hey! Life is short! Get out and start LIVING! All the best

Your Questions About Expedia Hotel

Mary asks…

I’m trying to book a flight and hotel with my debit card..HELP ME?

I am trying to use a debit card but no site (kayak, expedia, hotels.com) won’t let me. This is very important because I’m stuck in a country with only this debit card and need to get home asap. Please help me :(

Ready2Retire answers:

I suggest you call the airline directly. You will be paying for the ticket at the time of booking, so the debit card should work.
You can also add the hotel when you buy the ticket.
This is assuming the card has a Visa or MasterCard logo.

Laura asks…

Could my sister who is 23 use my credit card to rent out a hotel that is 21+ check in for me? Since im not 21?

I am going to be 18 and most hotels in the Miami beach area 21 minimum check in age. If i gave her my credit card could she still check in with my card and then leave? Or is it easier to reserve the room on my own through a website such as Expedia and hope they don’t deny me?

Ready2Retire answers:

The primary guest just has to be above the minimum age required by the hotel – who pays for the hotel room isn’t important as long as it’s legitimate/authorized. When your sister checks-in she becomes legally responsible for the room.

Betty asks…

Is it better to book a hotel room online or?

Thru the hotel or thru one of the online sites(hotels.com,expedia.com,hotwire.com etc)
I don’t want the most expensive room either

I preferable would want 2 double beds.
1 room
Nothing over 100.00

Ready2Retire answers:

You actually have to check each site online for the prices. Sometimes, the hotel’s own site may be cheaper, sometimes, the travel sites are cheaper. You just have to put in the dates and rooms and see which ones come out to be less. Some shopping sites also give you cashback for online purchases, including hotels. I use fatwallet.com and their cashback feature. You get 4% money back for purchases through hotels.com. Diff % for diff sites. If you’re going to book a room anyways, might as well get something back.

Sandra asks…

Is the hotel de france in vienna a nice place to stay?

I am going to vienna with my partner fro a weekend and was wondering if the hotel de france was any good. It has a 5 star rating on expedia and some reviewsof it are great but others are not soo good.

Ready2Retire answers:

I have stayed in Vienna at least 3 times but have never stayed at the hotel de France. I checked the Tripadvisor website and saw the hotel rated at #62 out of the 296 Viennese hotels listed on that website. And, out of the 31 people who rated it, the average was 4 out of 5. It seems a lot of people enjoyed their rooms, great service, and a good breakfast every morning.

At venere.com (love this website!) it was rate 8.6 out of 10, from 22 visitors who commented. Again, comments about the good food, centrally located within the Ringstrasse, and clean comfortable rooms.

From my experience with traveling, everyone has different expectations and perceptions. But from what I have read, it seems to be one of the better hotels in Vienna.

Cheers,

Petra M, Vancouver
