Alone to a concert? Don’t go alone. Take a friend, or meet up with a small group of friends. Besides…. Concerts are a lot more fun if you go with friends.

The area west of the United Center can be VERY rough, but if your Dad picks you (and hopefully a friend) up and you head back to downtown (east of the United Center) you should be fine… But again, I’d recommend you go with a friend.

St. Paul isn’t Chicago. Chicago is typically pretty safe, except for a few spots (West and South Sides can both be very rough)…. But after about 11pm you need to be very aware of your surroundings, especially when traveling alone.

The Marrriott in Covington isn’t too bad. You can go to http://www.hotels.com and enter the city and it will give you a list of hotels and you can sort by price or by customer ranking and read reviews of what people who stayed at the hotel thought of their experience.

I have seen a Drury Inn and they have built a number of them along I-75. The hotels look pretty new so I am thinking they should not be too bad.

WELL, according to their website, they say the following:

Ive been trying to find a place to email complaints/issues on Hilton.com, but i cant find any place for that. If i were you, I would probably call up the hotel you stayed at and ask to speak to a manager. They should solve the problem and take whatever actions needed. I would bring up the point that if you are willing to pay extra money to stay at a nice place, they should be going above and beyond to cater to your needs and wants. There should be no exceptions for service and quality in such a hotel. Maybe you should consider staying somewhere else that will do what you need.

OK, Rohnert Park is not the world’s most exciting town. If you have a car and are willing to drive 30 minutes to the east (towards Glen Ellen, in the Sonoma Valley) or north (towards Santa Rosa), there are plenty of wineries.

Santa Rosa is just up 101. To get to Glen Ellen, you have to take some back roads; but the back roads up there are beautiful, especially this time of year. Here’s a map of the route to Glen Ellen:

(You can also get to Glen Ellen by heading north on 101 and then turning onto Highway 12 east. This is the simplest route, but less fun and a little longer than the back roads.)

Glen Ellen is a beautiful little town. Besides wineries, here are two more places worth visiting:

- Jack London State Historic Park is a mile west of Glen Ellen on London Ranch Road.

The park is open daily, but the cottage is open only on weekends.

This is on Arnold Drive, less than a mile south of Glen Ellen. Their chocolates are pricy but very good.

As I said, the back roads in that area are all beautiful, so I encourage you to pick some road that heads away from the main highways, and explore the region. A map of California doesn’t have enough detail. You need a good local map, and might be able to find one in a gas-station convenience store or 7-Eleven.

Alternatively, if you belong to AAA, you can get high-quality free maps from the California State Automobile Association (generally open during normal business hours Monday-Friday). Here are some CSAA offices near Rohnert Park:

The town of Sonoma itself is also very attractive. It has a really nice town square surrounded by shops and restaurants. Just north of the town square is Sonoma State Historic Park, where California seceded from Mexico in the “Bear Flag Revolt” of 1846.

“Blind” travel sites like Hotwire are kind of unpredictable.

The Doubletree in Rohnert Park gets decent but not great ratings; some people like it, and some don’t. With luck, your room will be fine, and you’ll have a good time despite the somewhat long drive to points of interest.

If you have a credit card you can reserve at just about any hotel. You need not tell your age so do not.

As for the Doubletree: are you referring to the Doubletree in Allston near Harvard business school?? If so you can take the subway from the Airport (Silver Line connection to Red Line) to Cambridge Central Square station and then the #64 bus to as close to the Doubletree (one long block) as you can get (actually, I would assume the Doubletree would pick you up at the Subway Station – check it out).

I’m not sure about late check out. I have only stayed in Doubletree at Foxwoods, it was okay, all one level but I’d call and talk to them in person cuz maybe they can offer better tips. Good luck and have fun.

Out of the two I would stay at the Embassy, It’s right on the Falls where the Doubletree is two blocks over. Not a big deal but the Embassy is withing walking distance from everything, the Casino, the falls, restaurants etc. I personally like the Hilton best. It has a better view than the Embassy and their rates are cheaper this year so they are probably the same as the Embassy. The Hilton is fairly new and has a nice marble lobby and great pool. And the rooms are nice. Plus you can watch the fireworks over the Falls from their restaurant on the 34th floor. It’s awesome. Happy travels

Unless there are city taxes involved or you use services during your stay like room service, minibar or internet you won’t pay more than you already have. You should be aware before you book whetther there are charges that are not included – reputable sites like Expedia are pretty good about that. The hotel booking sites like Expedia, Venere, etc are often cheaper than going directly through the hotel. I booked a hotel in Amsterdam a few weeks ago and paid a little less than half the rate I would have paid on the hotel website. In that case, I was charged immediately and the deal was non-refundable if there was some reason I had not been able to make the trip.

I am a huge Four Seasons fan, having stayed at a couple of their properties. There are 2 things I can tell you about them:

1. You will be treated like royalty. The service at FS is some of the best I’ve ever experienced. I am forever spoiled and don’t like to stay anywhere else if I can help it. I am taking my first Hawaii trip this year and am staying at FS Manele Bay on Lanai and poss the one on Maui as well. From what I have heard, Hawaii, and Maui especially, is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

However, 2. You will spend like royalty. Their service comes with a price and everything at a FS property will be more $$ that you would expect. Drinks are $10, a dinner entree is $35, etc. I still feel its worth it, even when I choke down paying $6 for a basic PB and J for one of my kids. Everything gets charged to you room so you don’t have to worry about carrying cash – one of the perks the all inclusive resorts advertise a lot. The resorts are very classy, well maintained and the bathroom in your hotel room will be to die for.

I went to the Sandals in St Lucia for my honeymoon – it was 9 years ago so take that into consideration when reading my comments. The all-inclusive thing was great, you could hang out all day without worrying about how much $$ you were spending. There are lots of activies, especially stuff for couples and honeymooners who are 99% of their guests. Hubby and I joked that just about every female guest had the typical bridal french manicure. However it felt forced and a bit canned, like their ads look, or you might expect from a Disney resort. Everything from decor to the staff uniforms were bright splashy tropical colors, the “theme” restaurants were overally themed, etc. However, the island was beautiful, there was plenty to see and do and we did have a good time.

If cost is a factor, Sandals would be your best bet since beyond your room rate the only costs would be souvaniers and maybe a tour or a special bottle of wine. But if its not, IMHO the Four Seasons would be the one for your once in a lifetime trip.

Four Seasons is really more for people who don’t want to be in Vegas but have no choice. It is the absolute furthest end of the strip and it is intentionally very quiet and isolated.

Vdara on the other hand is right in the middle of the action between Bellagio, Cosmopolitan and Aria.

The Hampton Inn is by the RCMP headquarters: not exactly a place to visit! The baseball field is right there, and a 10 – 20 min or so walk is the St. Laurent shopping centre which has a movie theatre. That’s about it though: no night life in the area to speak of at all. Even restaurants are lacking; you have to go to the mall, or even further down St. Laurent.

I do not know where the Capital Hill Suites are, so, I can’t help you there.

Every summer we my brother, his girlfriend, me and one of my friends go to NF for a few days. Its one of my favourite places i’ve been to. We’re from Montreal. We always stay the Hilton Fallsview. Its got lots of stuff for kids to do there. And they have an awesome pool.

But there’s also the courtyard by the marriot. I heard it was nice too.

I don’t know anything about the hotel industry. What does a ‘night auditor’ do? Are you in the backroom looking at the books? Or are you at the front desk? I doubt that there are any housekeeping people at a Hampton Inn during the night, nor maintenance people. Security would probably be on an “as needed” basis — depending on the area and what is going on at the time.

If you were my daughter, I would be uncomfortable if you were the only employee at the Inn from 11-7 — especially if you were working the desk. You need to ask around and find out exactly what the situation would be. I hope other posters to your question have experience in this area.

I’ve never stayed at the Hampton Inn, so unfortunately I can’t give you any info about it, but just be aware if you’re not already, that Broadway isn’t actually on the beach. Depending on traffic you’re looking at about a 10 to 15 min drive to see the water, but there are plenty of public parking lots and public accesses to the beach and there is a ton of stuff to do right there at Broadway. Myrtle beach is a blast. Have fun! I live about two hours from Myrtle Beach and we go at least a couple of times a year…if you need any suggestions on what to do or what is a rip-off, please feel free to contact me.
