Your Questions About Expedia Hotel

Daniel asks…

Is ite beter to fly from LAX to Haneda airport in Tokyo, or Narita airport?

I’ve been reading hotel reviews on Expedia for hotels in the Shibuya/Shinjuku area of Tokyo and many were saying to fly into the Narita airport because you can either take the train or airport limousine bus to the hotels and you can only take taxis from Haneda airport. Is that true?

What are the advantages of flying into each? Going to visit in October and so I’m planning now but I’ll need to be sure that getting around is not too expensive or far.

Ready2Retire answers:

You can take bus or train from Haneda. I think Haneda is better because it’s closer to Tokyo center. But it does not make your trip so much different, no matter which airport you will land.

Sharon asks…

does anyone know of any current Expedia coupon codes ?

we need to book a hotel, is there any current valid codes I can use ?

Ready2Retire answers:

Expedia coupon codes are usually pretty vacation-specific, rather than a general percentage discount. The best thing you can do is sign up for their e-mail list to get legitimate coupons and deals. However, if your vacation location / hotel is not set in stone I suggest: http://www.retailmenot.com/view/expedia.com

RetailMeNot has ratings so you’ll know if the coupon is still valid.

Helen asks…

Help find a hotel for my parents anniversary in Cabo San Lucas!?

This will be a gift for my parents anniversary and I want to make sure they get the most out of Cabo with my limited budget =/

We’re looking for a hotel in Los Cabos that is near all the adventure outings (ATV, wave runner, biking, boating). A non-rocky beach that they can relax and go in (swimming isn’t a factor), a nice pool to lay around and a spa (not massage service types but a place with just a spa to go to) to end their day.

For types of hotels, a non-inclusive hotel with walking distances to restaurants and nightlife would be great but if it’s cheaper and better bang for the buck, I don’t mind getting the one that is inclusive for them.

I’ve read some great review on hotels (expedia etc) but later finding out that they’re not as close and driving distances from all the attraction. I don’t want my parents to worry about finding transportation to get to these types of outting.

Budget is $2000 for round trip and hotel package for 2 adults staying for 5 nights.

Ready2Retire answers:

Hola. You do know Cabo is the most expensive resort in Mexico right?!! I’ll try my best to work within your budget.

I think you might have to consider an all-inclusive…I recommend the Riu Sante Fe for your parents. It is a brand new resort and it covers everything you asked for. Second, I would look at the non-all-inclusive option of the Solmar suites resort..an older crowd really loves this resort and it to is close to town and easy access to everything. You can’t go wrong with the Pueblos (bonito, pacifica, sunset) or the Villas (del parmar, del arco, etc) These are the resorts where you can walk to pretty much anything in downtown Cabo.

But do your parents really need to stay right in Cabo? The reason I ask this is because we have several really great resorts in San Jose del Cabo (about 25 minutes from Cabo but closer to the airport) The Crowne Plaza, Royal Solaris, El Presidente are all really great and cater to an older, mellower crowd, but still lots of fun. Also, they are all walking distance into the quaint little town of SJD and people really love the art galleries, restaurants, shopping, old colonial buildings and zocolo (town square). It feels more like mexico than Cabo.

Of course, we boast at least one hundred more really really fantastic resorts that would knock your socks off and would be perfect for your parents….but since money is the issue and/or transportation you might find them out of your pricerange. Check out Dreams and the Marquis just in case they have some summmer deals.
Hope this helps.

….oh and p.s. Transportation is really not as bad as it seems here. You can catch buses, and/or taxis and shuttles, rent a car, or grab a tour group and they will shuttle you to the nearest attraction. Also, alot of the resort offer their own shuttles.

John asks…

The difference between a hostel and a hotel…?

Im a traveler on a budget, headed for New York, and hostels seem to have good prices, even with mixed reviews.

But whats the difference? (I know Im sounding dumb… I know in hostels the bathrooms are shared, but is that the only difference?)

The West Side Inn & Hostel, The West End Studios & Hostel, The Continental Hostel, and the Broadway hotel and Hostel are all advertised on Expedia, with good prices. But I want to know what Im getting myself into.

Thanks for any tips as well.

Ready2Retire answers:

hotels have more luxuries and are generally more expensive. In hotels you’ll have your own room, bathroom and maid service, fresh towels and other perks like gyms and pools. Some might even offer porter service.

At a hostel, you’ll share pretty much everything — except all of your money. You’ll share a room, bathroom and shower. Some hostels include a meal in the price, and most have kitchens available for you to prepare your own meals.

If you check in advance, some hostels will even allow you to stay for free in exchange for a day’s work — or perhaps offer a discount for work.

Hostels are more bare-bones, but they might be more interesting, particularly if you enjoy meeting new people and hearing their stories. Many have common areas where you can mingle. Also check to see if you’ll need to provide your own linens, and to see if there’s a curfew. And beware — since hostels are pretty much communal, you might need to keep a closer eye on your belongings.

That said, do some research and make the best choice for you — good luck!

Your Questions About Hampton Inn Hotel

Sandra asks…

My dad is surprising my mom with a family trip to savannah georgia and we need help deciding where to stay..?

Mandy asks…

Teen going to a concert in Chicago alone? Safe?

I’m dying to go to a concert in Chicago later this month but my family is worried about the safety of Chicago. The concert is at the United Center, and we’d be staying at the Hampton Inn & Suites Chicago-Downtown hotel. It’s about 3 miles from the hotel to the arena. Both are in downtown Chicago as far as I know. The concert ends at around 11:30PM, and my dad would pick me up outside of the arena. Do you guys think that it would be unsafe for me to go?
Well, the tickets for the concert are $300 because they’re VIP, and I know the concert I’m seeing won’t be my dads cup of tea.

I also forgot to add that I went to the same concert alone in St. Paul, MN, and it turned out fine.

Ready2Retire answers:

Alone to a concert? Don’t go alone. Take a friend, or meet up with a small group of friends. Besides…. Concerts are a lot more fun if you go with friends.

The area west of the United Center can be VERY rough, but if your Dad picks you (and hopefully a friend) up and you head back to downtown (east of the United Center) you should be fine… But again, I’d recommend you go with a friend.

St. Paul isn’t Chicago. Chicago is typically pretty safe, except for a few spots (West and South Sides can both be very rough)…. But after about 11pm you need to be very aware of your surroundings, especially when traveling alone.

Paul asks…

The best commercial hotels on the road?

I don’t care about the price I just want to know which commercial hotel is the cats meow. Whether its a hampton or holiday inn express, just let me know. And if it depends on the location I’m going to kentucky near cinncinati

Ready2Retire answers:

The Marrriott in Covington isn’t too bad. You can go to http://www.hotels.com and enter the city and it will give you a list of hotels and you can sort by price or by customer ranking and read reviews of what people who stayed at the hotel thought of their experience.

I have seen a Drury Inn and they have built a number of them along I-75. The hotels look pretty new so I am thinking they should not be too bad.

Lisa asks…

please help me with this?

How much Hampton inn by Hilton hotels give raise after 90 days?
i started like a month ago i get paid 7.75 an hour but they told me i will get a raise after 90 days
my question is how much would a raise be??

Ready2Retire answers:

A dollar or two

Thomas asks…

does Hilton not have satisfaction guaranteed??

i’m staying at a hilton and had a bad overall experience, but i was told that hilton doesn’t have a 100% satisfaction guarantee, only their hampton inn and embassy suite hotels. that doesn’t make any sense– why would the lower chains guarantee it but not the classier hotels? or is that not true?

Ready2Retire answers:

WELL, according to their website, they say the following:

“Our customers are our business. In order to maintain high levels of satisfaction we are constantly assessing the views and needs of our customers. We operate a fair system for handling complaints and respect the rights of the consumer in the countries in which we operate.”

Ive been trying to find a place to email complaints/issues on Hilton.com, but i cant find any place for that. If i were you, I would probably call up the hotel you stayed at and ask to speak to a manager. They should solve the problem and take whatever actions needed. I would bring up the point that if you are willing to pay extra money to stay at a nice place, they should be going above and beyond to cater to your needs and wants. There should be no exceptions for service and quality in such a hotel. Maybe you should consider staying somewhere else that will do what you need.

Good luck and sorry about your experience…

Your Questions About Doubletree Hotel

John asks…

Help! I’m stuck in Rohnert Park…?

So – hotwire.com TOTALLY screwed me – my fiance and I wanted to spend some time in the Napa / Sonoma area for our 5th anniversary and thought it would be a good idea to book something on hotwire.com. We’re not familiar with the area so we thought we could only end up somewhere good… Ummm yeah the hotel they booked us at is in Rohnert Park. Of course there was no getting out of it – believe me I tried!
So now I need help finding wineries that aren’t super far away… any suggestions?
We’re staying at Doubletree – which by the way has TERRIBLE reviews. Ugh, can’t believe I’m actually dreading this trip… oh well, live and learn!

Ready2Retire answers:

OK, Rohnert Park is not the world’s most exciting town. If you have a car and are willing to drive 30 minutes to the east (towards Glen Ellen, in the Sonoma Valley) or north (towards Santa Rosa), there are plenty of wineries.

Here’s a map that shows the wineries in this area:

http://sonoma.com/visitorsinfo/Sonoma_County_Winery_Map.pdf

(You’ll find Rohnert Park a bit below the middle of the map.)

Santa Rosa is just up 101. To get to Glen Ellen, you have to take some back roads; but the back roads up there are beautiful, especially this time of year. Here’s a map of the route to Glen Ellen:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Rohnert+Park,+CA&daddr=Glen+Ellen,CA&hl=en&geocode=FTUESQId1rqv-Cl39qD6akqEgDHHUj4DojiIJA%3BFa9jSQIdC26y-CklYnAFHz-EgDEsRv5yAGVgzQ&gl=us&mra=ls&sll=38.349465,-122.66716&sspn=0.06085,0.153637&ie=UTF8&ll=38.371001,-122.608795&spn=0.121664,0.307274&z=12

(You can also get to Glen Ellen by heading north on 101 and then turning onto Highway 12 east. This is the simplest route, but less fun and a little longer than the back roads.)

Glen Ellen is a beautiful little town. Besides wineries, here are two more places worth visiting:

- Jack London State Historic Park is a mile west of Glen Ellen on London Ranch Road.

The park is open daily, but the cottage is open only on weekends.

- Wine Country Chocolates

http://www.winecountrychocolates.com/

This is on Arnold Drive, less than a mile south of Glen Ellen. Their chocolates are pricy but very good.

As I said, the back roads in that area are all beautiful, so I encourage you to pick some road that heads away from the main highways, and explore the region. A map of California doesn’t have enough detail. You need a good local map, and might be able to find one in a gas-station convenience store or 7-Eleven.

Alternatively, if you belong to AAA, you can get high-quality free maps from the California State Automobile Association (generally open during normal business hours Monday-Friday). Here are some CSAA offices near Rohnert Park:

1500 Farmers Lane, Santa Rosa (north of Rohnert Park)
111 Lynch Creek Way, Petaluma (south of Rohnert Park)
650 2nd Street West, Sonoma (in Sonoma Valley, south of Glen Ellen)

The town of Sonoma itself is also very attractive. It has a really nice town square surrounded by shops and restaurants. Just north of the town square is Sonoma State Historic Park, where California seceded from Mexico in the “Bear Flag Revolt” of 1846.

Incidentally, the San Francisco Chronicle recently had an article about somebody else who had a similar experience on Hotwire (unhappy with the hotel and the location):

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/03/27/TR2K1I1BBH.DTL

“Blind” travel sites like Hotwire are kind of unpredictable.

The Doubletree in Rohnert Park gets decent but not great ratings; some people like it, and some don’t. With luck, your room will be fine, and you’ll have a good time despite the somewhat long drive to points of interest.

Ruth asks…

Are there any hotels in Boston that let 18 year olds make reservations?

I need to go to Boston to take placement exams for the college I’ll be attending, and I was wondering if there’s any hotels that let you make reservations if you’re 18. I’ve e-mailed a few (Doubletree Guest Suites Boston lets you, but there’s no T stop near it), but so far, I’m not having any luck. I’m waiting on a response from Club Quarters Boston about their minimum age. Anyways, are there any other hotels that will let me make reservations if I’m 18 (Brookline or Cambridge is ok, too)? There won’t be anyone else with me – no parents/friends, and I do have a credit card. The hotels would need to be accessible by the T (I’d be coming into South Station on Greyhound and taking the Green Line to the MFA stop the next day, but I’m familiar enough with the T to get around) because I won’t have a car or anything. Thanks! :)
I’ve found Doubletree Guest Suites Boston that’ll let me, but I’m using that as a last resort since I’d have to take a cab from South Station to the hotel. If anyone knows of any other places, I’d love to know!

Ready2Retire answers:

If you have a credit card you can reserve at just about any hotel. You need not tell your age so do not.

As for the Doubletree: are you referring to the Doubletree in Allston near Harvard business school?? If so you can take the subway from the Airport (Silver Line connection to Red Line) to Cambridge Central Square station and then the #64 bus to as close to the Doubletree (one long block) as you can get (actually, I would assume the Doubletree would pick you up at the Subway Station – check it out).

Jenny asks…

Ok so I am going to see my gf in Tucson, AZ in Sept. and have looked at two different hotels for us to stay in?

they are: Radisson Suites and Doubletree at Reid Park. We will be needing accessible rooms as she is in a wheelchair and I use crutches but I am more concerned with her needs than mine. I know both hotels offer accessible rooms but would anyone have any suggestions as to which one to choose based on how good they are and which one will allow late check out…we will definitely be needing this as my flight wont leave till evening hours. Thanks for any suggestions or guidance you all can provide me with.

Ready2Retire answers:

I’m not sure about late check out. I have only stayed in Doubletree at Foxwoods, it was okay, all one level but I’d call and talk to them in person cuz maybe they can offer better tips. Good luck and have fun.

Nancy asks…

hotels at Niagara Falls

I’m planning a trip to Niagara Falls this October. I’m trying to decided between Embassy Suites – Fallsview and Doubletree Fallsview Resort & Spa. Reviews and opinions of anyone who’s been there lately?

Ready2Retire answers:

Out of the two I would stay at the Embassy, It’s right on the Falls where the Doubletree is two blocks over. Not a big deal but the Embassy is withing walking distance from everything, the Casino, the falls, restaurants etc. I personally like the Hilton best. It has a better view than the Embassy and their rates are cheaper this year so they are probably the same as the Embassy. The Hilton is fairly new and has a nice marble lobby and great pool. And the rooms are nice. Plus you can watch the fireworks over the Falls from their restaurant on the 34th floor. It’s awesome. Happy travels

Your Questions About Expedia Hotel

Michael asks…

How choose hotel in Salvador?

Expedia and other sites show me all the same, with almost no information about. Is there a better way to choose hotel in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil?

Ready2Retire answers:

Hi Mark!

To help us choosing hotels it is always good a local support,,,, I know a website about Salvador destination where you can talk directly to the owners, who are also locals =] Send them an e-mail with your doubts.

Here you are their webpage: http://www.salvador-hotel.com/

Mark asks…

Booked hotel in Germany – will rates stay the same?

Living in the US, booked a hotel through Expedia.com for Germany. Expedia has charged me already – looked up prices for the same hotel and dates through the actual hotel website and its the same numerical price but in euros. They stipulate a difference because of exchange rate, but what’s the deal with the same price only in dollars (expedia -$90 US a night) and euros (hotel website – $90 euro a night)?!

Ready2Retire answers:

Unless there are city taxes involved or you use services during your stay like room service, minibar or internet you won’t pay more than you already have. You should be aware before you book whetther there are charges that are not included – reputable sites like Expedia are pretty good about that. The hotel booking sites like Expedia, Venere, etc are often cheaper than going directly through the hotel. I booked a hotel in Amsterdam a few weeks ago and paid a little less than half the rate I would have paid on the hotel website. In that case, I was charged immediately and the deal was non-refundable if there was some reason I had not been able to make the trip.

Steven asks…

hotel deals websites?

Does anyone know best hotel deals sites, since I need to book hotels for Rome and Paris in couple of months? Also, I heard of expedia, hotwire, hotels. ca, but not sure if there are any other sites that I should consider.

Any suggestions welcomed :)

Ready2Retire answers:

Try using google. There are a few dodgy ones but then, you can always try travelrepublic.com (depending on where your booking from, i think that site may only be UK) travelwasp.com icelolly.com holidayshed.com booking.com and there’s obviously more but i can’t think off the top of my head.

What do you think of my secret?

What is best mid-range dollar hotel in downtown Chicago?

I’ve been to Chicago only once so I’m not too familiar with the area. My girlfriend and I have to attend a wedding in Wisconsin, but we will spend a night in Chicago and then spend an afternoon the next day before driving up there.

I’ve done some researching and I’m looking for a 4* type hotel. Trump, Ritz & Four Seasons is a bit out of my price-range but there are other high priced hotels like the Hyatt, Sutton Place, Drake, Wyndham, etc.

I’d like something that is near stuff so we don’t have to drive to it and has a good view of the city.

Thanks.

Ready2Retire answers:

You can check http://compare.hotelbooklet.com/City/Chicago.htm and find out which hotel is more suitable for you. Besides as it compares offers from more than 30 other hotel reservation sites, you’ll get the best price as well. Have a nice stay in Chicago!

Honeymoon Advice Please – I am trying to decide if i want to go to Maui or to a Sandals Resort in St. Lucia.?

Hi. I am going to get married next summer and i am trying to decide where i want to go for my honeymoon. I can either go to Maui, Hawaii and stay at the Four Seasons hotel. Or i can go to St. Lucia or Antigua and stay at an All – Inclusive Sandals Resort. They both sound good to me therefore i cant decide which one would be best. If you have been to a Sandals Resort please tell me how you liked the experience and which one of the resorts you stayed at. I really appreciate all of your advice!!

Ready2Retire answers:

I am a huge Four Seasons fan, having stayed at a couple of their properties. There are 2 things I can tell you about them:

1. You will be treated like royalty. The service at FS is some of the best I’ve ever experienced. I am forever spoiled and don’t like to stay anywhere else if I can help it. I am taking my first Hawaii trip this year and am staying at FS Manele Bay on Lanai and poss the one on Maui as well. From what I have heard, Hawaii, and Maui especially, is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

However, 2. You will spend like royalty. Their service comes with a price and everything at a FS property will be more $$ that you would expect. Drinks are $10, a dinner entree is $35, etc. I still feel its worth it, even when I choke down paying $6 for a basic PB and J for one of my kids. Everything gets charged to you room so you don’t have to worry about carrying cash – one of the perks the all inclusive resorts advertise a lot. The resorts are very classy, well maintained and the bathroom in your hotel room will be to die for.

I went to the Sandals in St Lucia for my honeymoon – it was 9 years ago so take that into consideration when reading my comments. The all-inclusive thing was great, you could hang out all day without worrying about how much $$ you were spending. There are lots of activies, especially stuff for couples and honeymooners who are 99% of their guests. Hubby and I joked that just about every female guest had the typical bridal french manicure. However it felt forced and a bit canned, like their ads look, or you might expect from a Disney resort. Everything from decor to the staff uniforms were bright splashy tropical colors, the “theme” restaurants were overally themed, etc. However, the island was beautiful, there was plenty to see and do and we did have a good time.

If cost is a factor, Sandals would be your best bet since beyond your room rate the only costs would be souvaniers and maybe a tour or a special bottle of wine. But if its not, IMHO the Four Seasons would be the one for your once in a lifetime trip.

Good Luck and Enjoy!

Mandy asks…

Vdara vs Four Seasons LV?

Between these 2 non-smoking/non-gaming hotels, which is better for a birthday weekend late August?
We’re a late 20′s married couple, and have been to Vegas 3 and 4 times respectively. (MGM, Mirage, Excalibur, NYNY)
4 seasons LV gets higher reviews on tripadvisor but is also about $90 more for the weekend.
Is it worth it?

Ready2Retire answers:

Four Seasons is really more for people who don’t want to be in Vegas but have no choice. It is the absolute furthest end of the strip and it is intentionally very quiet and isolated.

Vdara on the other hand is right in the middle of the action between Bellagio, Cosmopolitan and Aria.

Your Questions About Hampton Inn Hotel

Mary asks…

What are some places near these Ottawa hotels?

Next month I’ll be near Hampton Inn and Capital Hill Suites.. Anyone who lives in Ottawa know of any good places within walking distance to either of these? Need to plan for a night out! :P
Thanks! :)

Ready2Retire answers:

The Hampton Inn is by the RCMP headquarters: not exactly a place to visit! The baseball field is right there, and a 10 – 20 min or so walk is the St. Laurent shopping centre which has a movie theatre. That’s about it though: no night life in the area to speak of at all. Even restaurants are lacking; you have to go to the mall, or even further down St. Laurent.

I do not know where the Capital Hill Suites are, so, I can’t help you there.

We are planning to be in Las Vegas for a Sat & Sun night in Sept. We can not afford the higher priced hotels and are looking to possibly stay in a Hampton Inn, but there are several. Can someone tell me what areas to avoid? We will be flying in, so should we stay close to the airport or further north of the city?

Sandy asks…

what family hotels can you recommend in niagara falls?

reasonable with a buffet breakfast – on canada side
we usually go to hampton inn, this time seems a bit pricey

Ready2Retire answers:

Every summer we my brother, his girlfriend, me and one of my friends go to NF for a few days. Its one of my favourite places i’ve been to. We’re from Montreal. We always stay the Hilton Fallsview. Its got lots of stuff for kids to do there. And they have an awesome pool.

But there’s also the courtyard by the marriot. I heard it was nice too.
